School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences Organises Workshop on GMP

Staff members of the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (SoPPS) of the University of Cape Coast have received training on Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) at a five-day workshop.

The training covered modules such as General Principles and Validation Master Plan, Quality and Validation of Facilities, as well as Cleaning Validation.

The rest were Validation of Equipment, Process Validation and Method Validation.

In his welcome address, Dr. Ernest Obese, Vice-Dean of the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences indicated that the training was aimed at improving general knowledge on qualification and validation; providing practical guidance in execution and validation activities and providing the basis for best practices for qualification and validation activities in Ghana.

He urged the participants to participate actively in all the sessions which provided valuable insights for participants to brainstorm.

A Senior Expert from PUM Netherlands, Jos Kessels, told participants to adhere to good standard practices in the country. He noted that his outfit would continue to engage faculty members of the School to ensure good manufacturing practices.

Mr. Kessels added that faculty members should dutifully follow the modules in the discharge of their responsibilities.

Participants in the workshop were taken through various technical presentations to enhance their knowledge of key contemporary issues.

Addressing the closing of the event, the Dean of the School, Prof Elvis Ofori Ameyaw, commended participants for actively participating in the training programme. He noted that the training would significantly aid in enhancing the standardization as well as the activities in the Pharmaceutical Sector in Ghana and urged participants to share new insights with fellow practitioners in the country. 

Dr Jonathan Asante, on behalf of all participants, lauded the training and shared his enthusiasm about the knowledge gained for new exploits on GMP.

Participants were awarded certificates upon completion of the workshop.
