Prof. Christine Adu-Yeboah has officially assumed office as Acting Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast (UCC).
She takes over from Prof. Denis Worlanyo Aheto following a formal handover ceremony held at the Council Chamber.
Prof. Adu-Yeboah will serve as Acting Pro Vice-Chancellor pending the appointment of a substantive Pro Vice-Chancellor in accordance with Statute 9.4 of the University of Cape Coast Statutes, 2016.
Her appointment is in accordance with Statute 9.4 of the University of Cape Coast Statutes, 2016, which states:
"Should a vacancy occur in the office of Pro Vice-Chancellor arising from incapacity, death, resignation or removal, before the forthcoming 31st December, Council shall appoint any person of Professorial rank as Pro Vice-Chancellor to finish the unexpired portion of the term up to 31st December and start his or her own term from the 1st of January following."
In his address, the Chairman of the UCC Governing Council, Justice William Anaam Atuguba (Rtd.), described the transition as the beginning of a new chapter in the University's leadership. He expressed optimism that the change would further strengthen UCC's position as a leading institution of higher learning and inspire greater institutional growth.
Justice Atuguba urged the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Denis Worlanyo Aheto, and Acting Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Christine Adu-Yeboah, to uphold fairness, integrity and accountability in the discharge of their duties.
"Where there is no fairness, things suffer, and there is a miscarriage of good results in the future. I urge you to leave a lasting legacy during your tenure of office," he advised.
Presenting the handover notes, Prof. Aheto expressed appreciation to the Governing Council, Management and the entire University community for the confidence reposed in him during his tenure as Pro Vice-Chancellor. Reflecting on his one year and seven months in office, he noted that the experience had broadened his understanding of the University's operations and strengthened his commitment to advancing its mission.
He indicated that although his tenure was relatively brief, it was both rewarding and impactful, adding that together with Management, significant efforts were made to sustain the University's achievements in quality teaching, research and community engagement.
Prof. Aheto congratulated Prof. Adu-Yeboah on her appointment and encouraged her to continue supporting the University's leadership in advancing its strategic vision.
"The workload of the Pro Vice-Chancellor is enormous, but I am confident that you will rise to the occasion and excel in the role," he remarked.
In her acceptance remarks, Prof. Adu-Yeboah thanked the Governing Council for the confidence reposed in her and acknowledged the invaluable contributions of successive University leaders to UCC’s growth and reputation.
She pledged her full support to the Vice-Chancellor and reaffirmed her commitment to providing effective leadership during her tenure as Acting Pro Vice-Chancellor. She emphasised the importance of fostering a conducive environment for both academic and administrative staff to enhance teaching, learning, research and service delivery, while contributing to the realisation of the University's strategic objectives.
The ceremony was attended by Provosts of the five colleges, a cross- section of Deans, Directors and other senior members of the University community.
